FISHTAIL LACE SLOUCH HAT

US 7 (4.5 mm) 16″ circular knitting needles for brim band

US 9 (5.5 mm) 20″ circular knitting needles for pattern

1 skein of Lion Brand Yarn; Harvest Moon Color #217; 147 yd

 

Using US 7 circular knitting needles, cast on 88 stitches (Sts).  Join to knit in the round (Rnd) and careful not to twist stitches. Place marker (PM).

Ribbing:  Knit 2 (K2), Purl 2 (P2); repeat to end of round.  Continue until 1.5″ width band.

Change over to US 9 circular knitting needles for pattern

Fishtail Lace Pattern: 

Round 1: *[Yarn Over (YO), K2, Slip 1 (Sl1), Knit 2 stitches together (K2tog), Pass Slipped Stitch Over (PSSO), K2, YO, K1] (PM); repeat from * to end of Rnd and (PM) after each repeat *[ ].

Rnd 2: Knit all Sts to end of Rnd.

Rnd 3: K1, *[YO, K1, Sl1, K2tog, PSSO, K1, YO, K3]; repeat from * to last 7 Sts then, YO, K1, Sl1, K2tog, PSSO, K1, YO, K2.

Rnd 4: Knit all Sts to end of Rnd.

Rnd 5: K2, *[YO, Sl1, K2tog, PSSO, YO, K5]; repeat from * to last 6 Sts then, YO, Sl1, K2tog, PSSO, YO, K3.

Row 6: Knit all Sts to end of Rnd.

Repeat steps Rnd 1 through Rnd 6 until desired length (8 or 9 times).

 

Decrease:

Rnd 1: *[K6, K2tog]; repeat from * to end of Rnd. (77 Sts)

Rnd 2: *[K5, K2tog]; repeat from * to end of Rnd. (66 Sts)

Rnd 3: *[K4, K2tog]; repeat from * to end of Rnd. (55 Sts)

Rnd 4: *[K3, K2tog]; repeat from * to end of Rnd. (44 Sts)

Rnd 5: *[K2, K2tog]; repeat from * to end of Rnd. (33 Sts)

Rnd 6: *[K1, K2tog]; repeat from * to end of Rnd. (22 Sts)

Rnd 7: *[K2tog]; repeat from * to end of Rnd. (11 Sts)

Finishing: Cut yarn and thread yarn through remaining 11 Sts. Pull tight to close space. Weave in ends.
